»ADIKORO – Women in Music – Ghana: Beyond the Movie« (En)

Kemi Fatoba (Host), Pamela Owusu-Brenyah

For her documentary, premiering at Pop-Kultur, Afropop expert Pamela Owusu-Brenyah travelled to Ghana to examine the difficulties female pop artists are facing at a time when their male counterparts are achieving international fame. In this talk following the screening, she meets the Berlin-based journalist Kemi Fatoba. Fatoba is the co-founder of DADDY magazine and has introduced the section »Weil Sichtbarkeit das Wichtigste ist« (»Because Visibility Is the Most Important«) in German Vogue, in which different journalists take turns dealing with issues of representation and the structural obstacles in their way. The panel is complemented by the lived experience of an artist in Ghana who has to overcome these very obstacles in her everyday work day after day. Together, the three discuss not just the status quo that the film tackles but also perspectives for the future.

Supported by Initiative Musik gGmbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media in the framework of Pop-Kultur International.
