Freak de l’Afrique: »Wena! J.A.M.E.«
Last year, despite the pandemic, the Freak de l’Afrique collective managed to successfully premiere their musical »Wena! J.A.M.E.« in Berlin. The 90-minute show takes the audience on a journey through the modern musical landscape of Africa and its diaspora with DJs, dancers and virtual art. From Afrobeats and Afro house to Coupé, Decalé and Ndombolo, to hip-hop and dancehall, the stage production uses music and dance performance to dispel the prevailing romanticised, exoticised and unrealistic ideas about »African music.« With clear statements, Freak de l’Afrique will introduce the Berlin audience to new sounds, visuals and movements from the continent and its global influence.
