Freak de l’Afrique: »Afrika Is Not a Country«

The Freak de l’Afrique collective is now known far beyond the borders of Berlin for its hip and innovative event series, workshops and concerts. With series such as Cirque de l’Afrique, Bantus Diary and the Afro House Xperience, they’ve set new standards within the field of African sounds. Although African pop music has become popular globally, including in Berlin, Africa and its numerous cultures are still largely perceived as a single entity without vast differences. Here, artists of various African origins will highlight the cultural diversity of the continent for an evening organised by Freak de l’Afrique under the title »Africa Is Not a Country.« In the spotlight will their latest stage production, »Wena! A Journey through Afropolitan Musical Encounters,« which celebrated its premiere last August, accompanied by a screening of the collective’s self-produced documentary »Afro Beats Berlin« and more.
