«Let’s talk about Club Culture and how the forced break affected us» (En)
Berlin is considered a party city. But clubs are about more than just having fun. They offer young people a place to try things out on their own terms, and they represent safe(r) places of shared exchange for marginalised and queer communities. When the pandemic hit, however, none of this could happen. But as the scene serves not only as a meeting point for different perspectives, but also as an incubator for innovation, the rave quickly shifted into the online world. Hosted by »Lu« Lewamm Ghebremariam, this talk gathers record store owner, producer, label operator and DJ Cinthie Christl, »Weeeirdos« co-host and DJ Danielle Rahal aka Lolsnake, and »Songeversations« organiser and »Higher-Grounds« co-founder Maureen Mo to discuss the individual and structural effects that the pandemic has had on the Berlin club culture that they helped shape – it’s about mental health, social issues and the consequences of technological efforts and, of course, what might happen next for the scene and the club capital.
