La Même Gang

La Même Gang is an up-and-coming collective from Ghana comprising Darkovibes, $pacely, RJZ and Kiddblack who are spearheading the country’s alté movement for alternative music. Their varied sound is equally confident in the realms of trap and R&B as it is in the various strains of Afropop and styles like highlife. While their lyrics effortlessly move between twi, ga and pidgin, their visual aesthetics shine with imagination and surreal humour. Colourful, surprising, intimate – this also applies to their digital work for this year’s edition of Pop-Kultur. Video and photo material from the collective’s environment, interviews and insights are pieced together to retell the story of La Même Gang while furthermore shedding light on the role of social media for contemporary African artists, the potential of collective work, the consequences of the pandemic and what the future might bring.
