Mr. Silla
No matter her form of expression, Sigurlaug Gísladóttir maintains a clear signature. Whether in the visual arts or as a musician and songwriter, the former member of the Icelandic collective múm (and half the duo Mr. Silla & Mongoose along with Magnús B. Skarphéðinsson) always manages to articulate herself in a way that is both impressionistic and versatile. Her most recent move as Mr. Silla was the release of the album »Hands on Hands« in 2019, which translated a wide range of sounds into a colorful narrative. Dramatic synth-pop, decelerated hip-hop, multi-layered ambient music and sound art, spacey dream-pop and even house rhythms came together to create a dense, rainbowy mixture. As in her paintings and textile work, clearly defined structures come together to form seemingly inextricable patterns, rich in detail and impossible to ignore.
