»Speaking of Sampling«

Azadê Peşmen, Enis Maci, Jesseline Preach & Leyla Yenirce

When samplers first came onto the market in the late seventies, it was a game-changer for the music world: all of a sudden, the possibilities of production seemed endless, and the technology took the genre of hip-hop to the next level. Sampling continues to this day, probably even more than ever, and across all forms of media. But it can get complicated, whether in legal, ethical or cultural terms. In her talk, musician Leyla Yenirce welcomes journalist and spoken-word artist Azadê Peşmen, author and essayist Enis Maci and Jesseline Preach – who also appears at Pop-Kultur this year with the Commissioned Work »Fathoeburger« – to discuss sampling in various media, the problem of authorship and the confounded issue of what’s considered original.
