In times of lockdown, when apartments felt too cramped, many Berliners were drawn to nature culture – the parks, gardens and open fields of the city. What is the significance of these human-made, cultivated and maintained green spaces now and in the future? With their commissioned work for Pop-Kultur, designers Ebba Fransén Waldhör and Romy Kießling have collaborated on the project wkc, (de)constructing the principle of the garden on the grounds of the Kulturbrauerei. Their living, speculative installations are guided by issues of the garden – as a political site, realm of care and collective space.

Through their interventions, they also shed light on the relationships between the audience and the more-than-human, the coexistence of humanity and ecology, manifesting themselves as both surrealistic and humorous in a utopian perspective for the future. At Pop-Kultur, plants are transplanted – and so are Berliners.
