»Blackout Tuesday – Auswirkungen für die deutsche Musikindustrie« (De)

On the 2nd of June last year, a huge number of black squares were found on social-media channels with the hashtag #TheShowMustBePaused. The action, which became known as »Blackout Tuesday,« was initiated by Brianna Agyemang from Platoon and Jamila Thomas from Atlantic Records. In reaction to the murder of George Floyd, it was meant as a gesture of solidarity as well as a warning: even in the music industry, which has accumulated its wealth on the contributions of Black people, they continue to be structurally disadvantaged. This is all the more true in Germany. Now, over a year later, it’s time to put the campaign to the test: Is it all just image cultivation? Or did the campaign really bring about changes in the major labels and the music industry as a whole? Ana Rungo, who works as Manager for Synch & Licensing at BMG, »Never Again Quiet« songwriter Celina Bostic, and CEO of Sony DACH Patrick Mushatsi-Kareba will discuss this along with host Misla Tesfamariam.
