Residency Tel Aviv-Berlin: Istanbul Ghetto Club & Teddy Neguse

Mahmut Tatlisynth and Kamil Lover hide behind masks and veils, but they have nothing to hide. Under the name Istanbul Ghetto Club, the duo combine the sounds of modular synthesisers with saz and oud. They call the result »Anatolian acid,« which will form the basis for Teddy Neguse’s eloquent linguistic acrobatics in the second edition of Pop-Kultur’s residency between Berlin and Tel Aviv, conceived as a creative exchange programme. The Ethiopian-Israeli rapper should have no trouble keeping up, as he knows his way around acoustic basslines and the onslaught of an 808. During two four-week stays in Berlin and Tel Aviv, both parties will first get productive in the studio and then take the stage, performing together at Pop-Kultur in Berlin as well as the Kuli Alma Club in Tel Aviv.

Supported by Initiative Musik gGmbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media in the framework of Pop-Kultur International.
