The Covid-19 pandemic has been a major international disaster and, above all, a regional catastrophe for the many collectives that want to prompt big changes on a smaller scale in terms of culture, society and politics. In addition to Pop-Kultur lokal, the 2021 edition of the festival will focus on the work of six Berlin collectives with a special programme that will allow them to present their collaborative performance art, their (cultural) political activism and their self-created platforms as part of of Pop-Kultur – be it online, on the radio, outdoors or at a large festival table. The independently curated and implemented programmes of these non-commercial collectives are as diverse and stimulating as their work itself: From musicals to immersive installations to a gigantic instrument played in tandem with the audience, they enrich the festival not just with art and music but also vital critical ideas on society and politics.
