This year’s »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« in Berlin and online – Applications are open!

Do you ever wonder about the day-to-day life of a music producer – or how to become one in the first place? Or what dramatic changes in the music industry mean for independent artists? Or, perhaps you’re interested in the strategies that artists use to gain visibility or reclaim public space. If this sounds like you, then apply for one of 250 spots at this year’s »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« programme.

Once again, various experts, artists and cultural professionals will share their expertise in various formats. Participation for selected applicants is free of charge, offering a valuable opportunity for anyone who’s starting out in the broad field of pop music – or wants to – whether as a musician, booking agent, journalist or event manager. Best practices are not always obvious, and the pandemic has made the situation even less clear. That’s why »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« is aiming to share knowledge and experience by fostering connection and exchange.

From the 25th through the 27th of August, 2021, festival acts and international experts will give personal insights into their careers. As we currently can’t foresee just how things will continue with the pandemic, the whole thing will take place in hybrid form: talks and lectures will take place online while workshops will happen on location (at the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin). Slated to take part are the band Girlpool, producer Max Rieger and interdisciplinary artist Preach. We’ll be announcing further instructors soon via our social media channels.

Attendees of the programme can choose from over 40 sessions and networking opportunities, each held in either German or English. The workshops and talks will clarify pressing issues in the pop-music business, helping you find your path and push you forward. And since the programme is geared towards talents from all around the world, you’ll have the chance to meet and exchange beyond national borders.

Applications can be submitted from the 29th of April through the 30th of May at nachwuchs.pop-kultur.berlin.

We’re looking forward to your application!

Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs: Digital Nachwuchs Stage x ALEX Berlin and the Opening Talks

For the Nachwuchs programme, Pop-Kultur welcomes 250 young talents from Berlin and around the world to around 40 workshops and networking opportunities with artists from the Live programme along with bright minds from business, politics and the music industry. The Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs live stage at the Soda Salon has been a staple in the festival programme for years — and still is in our digital edition. Together with the crossmedia community platform ALEX Berlin, we’ve invited six selected participants of this year’s Nachwuchs programme to have their live performances professionally filmed. They will be premiered at the Digital Nachwuchs Stage. Featuring Ava Vegas, Brenda Blitz, Dumama & Kechou, Baal & Mortimer, Marlena Käthe and Dan.

Additionally, the opening talks of the Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs programme by Danielle de Picciotto on Wednesday and by The Düsseldorf Düsterboys on Thursday will be available in full on the Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs homepage as well as on our YouTube channel.

»Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« 2018: Applications open now!

»Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« 2018: Applications open on 25 April

Are you a young musician, producer, or DJ? Do you work in music management or booking, or run your own label? Are you looking to establish yourself as a video director, PR manager, or journalist?
If you already have some initial experience in these fields, apply now to »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs«, a workshop programme run by the festival »Pop-Kultur« (15.-17.8.2018, Kulturbrauerei), which will take place for the fourth year in a row in Berlin — we have 250 spots available!

The workshops, talks, and lectures, which are given in either German or English by musicians and professionals from the national and international music industry, will be held on August 15th and 16th, 2018 in the Kulturbrauerei, followed by a new networking format on August 17th. The participants, who come to us from all over the world and are selected by a jury of experts, can choose between over 40 different courses.

How about a feminist rap workshop with Lady Bitch Ray? Or an intensive discussion with the producer Henrik Schwarz, who has been commissioned to write an elaborate piece for our parallel festival? Fascinated by New York underground legend Lydia Lunch? She’ll be giving a course about spoken word, the results of which will be presented on Friday in the festival’s main live programme! Want to pick the brain of Moses Schneider, the producer for Tocotronic and Beatsteaks? Or are you curious how iMusician can help you get your own music onto Spotify?

The workshops, talks, and lectures will provide inspiration, clarify urgent questions, and encourage you to continue making your way in the music business. Selected participants will also be able to present their music as part of the main evening programme on the »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« stage.

Participation in the »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« programme costs 40 Euros including drinks, lunch, and access to Pop-Kultur’s networking area for professionals.

The application phase begins on April 25th
